Banbury Choral Society (BCS) is one of the leading choral societies in Oxfordshire and performs classical choral concerts, often with orchestra, at St. Mary’s Church Banbury and other venues in the locality. In 2012 the Choir celebrated 70 years of choral singing. BCS has a membership of around 80 passionate singers drawn from Banbury and the surrounding villages, encompassing all ages from students to the retired, from all walks of life. The choir is led by the dynamic and inspirational Musical Director, Julian Harris, and is fortunate in having Sir Paul Hayter KCB LVO, as President.

The Choir’s repertoire has contained works from the Baroque, Romantic, Classical and Modern periods, including those by Charpentier, Vivaldi, Bach, Handel, Purcell, Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Verdi, Brahms and Elgar. Plans for future performances include Handel Messiah, Verdi Requiem, Mendelssohn Elijah and Bach B minor Mass.

In September 2011 BCS set up a Youth Outreach Scheme to encourage and support young people in their love of singing through membership of the choir and by giving a grant towards furthering their choral education and widening their musical experience.

How you can support BCS

The choir is lucky to receive support from a regular group of followers, but staging concerts using top professional soloists and orchestras is becoming more and more costly. In order to provide our audiences with the best experience possible it is necessary to reach out to the wider community for additional help to enable this wonderful choral tradition to continue for years to come. You are asked for your support by becoming a Friend, Life Friend, or Corporate Friend. In return you will receive tangible benefits as well as the pleasure of knowing that you are helping to support the future of choral music in Banbury.

Why not purchase a Friend’s Voucher as a birthday gift for a family member or friend. Help BCS to raise the roof and bring singing to a wider community!
