The Choir
Banbury Choral Society is one of the leading choral societies in Oxfordshire and performs classical choral concerts, often with orchestra, at St Mary's Church Banbury and other venues in the locality. In 2022 the Choir celebrated 80 years of choral singing. The society has a membership of around 90 passionate singers drawn from Banbury and the surrounding villages, encompassing all ages from students to the retired, from all walks of life. The choir is led by the inspirational Musical Director, Jonathan Kingston, and is fortunate in having local author, Felix Francis, as its President.
The choir's repertoire has contained works from the Baroque, Romantic, Classical and Modern periods including those by Charpentier, Vivaldi, Bach, Handel, Purcell, Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Verdi, Brahms and Elgar. Plans for our future performances can be found on the Concerts page.
The Choral Society meets on Monday nights during term time at Marlborough Road Methodist Church in Banbury. Rehearsals start at 7.30pm. Social coffee events are organised during the term to give members a chance to catch up with one another and to get to know new members. Twice a year, the social committee organises a choir party at a member’s home and these informal gatherings are very much enjoyed by the members. Outings to concerts in Birmingham and London are also organised from time to time.
Banbury Choral Society welcomes new members at all times. If you have sung in other choirs or indeed, if you haven’t sung in a choir before, but just love singing, then we would be glad to hear from you. Please complete the Enquiry Form on the Contact Us page and a member of the committee will get back in touch with you.
